Chapter Eleven

"Brandon!" Lottie shouted as she jumped and hugged her brother in the driveway of the B&B. She'd been taking her break when she heard her mom's high pitched giggles and yelps, and Lottie had rushed to the front of the inn.

"Ew, you stink," Lottie said taking a step away.

Brandon laughed. "I didn't get a chance to shower after my last event yesterday since I drove straight home."

"You came straight from a rodeo?" Lottie asked, taking another step back. She was surprised that Brandon didn't stink worse than he did. As it was, he smelled like an uncleaned barn.

"You get that gorgeous behind of yours into the shower now," Mabel commanded from the front porch. "Use your grandpa's shower." Mabel chuckled knowing Grandpa wouldn't be happy with that arrangement.

Brandon lifted his backpack over one shoulder and a duffle over the other as he walked into the inn. Lottie and Mabel were sure to stay a few steps in front of him to try to outrun the stench.

As they walked to the front desk, Lottie noticed that the twins had stopped to gawk at her brother, and she couldn't help but laugh. With his dark hair, rodeo grown muscles, and perpetually tan skin, Brandon was a good-looking guy. "So have I!" Lottie argued.

"And every Thanksgiving," Brandon said with a raised eyebrow knowing he had Lottie there. She'd had to miss one thanks to plane ticket prices being astronomical.

"That's not fair. I've been home way more this summer."

"Trying to make up for your wayward ways, I suppose," Brandon said.

Lottie narrowed her eyes, and Brandon ducked when she attempted to throw a balled up piece of paper at his head, then hurried off to Grandpa's shower.

Lottie laughed at her brother's antics, grateful that he was home. Things were tense in the inn, thanks to the thefts, and Brandon was known to relieve a tense moment or two.

Mabel was excitedly explaining to the twins who Brandon was and what he did. Lottie watched as their nearly identical eyes widened at the mention of rodeo cowboy. What was it with women and falling for the men who worked the circuit? Sure, they were rugged and nine times out of ten handsome like her brother, but her stomach and heart could hardly take knowing her brother was always in danger. She couldn't imagine if it were her husband putting his limbs, and sometimes life, on the line.

She knew she was being hypocritical since she would have been happy to have thrown caution to the wind for a certain police detective a few days before, but she
